Who it is for

Who the camp is for

Dynamo Camp hosts children from 6 to 17 years with serious and chronic pathologies who are both in therapy and in the post hospitalization stage free of charge. Dynamo Camp also offers programmes designed ad hoc for the whole family and programmes for the healthy brothers and sisters in the awareness that an illness does not just affect the sick child, but the whole family.

Summer sessions for unaccompanied minors

Dynamo Camp is free of charge for children from 6 to 17 years with onco-haematological pathologies who are both in therapy and in the post hospitalization stage. These programmes are designed and organized solely for minors who attend the camp unaccompanied. Among the pathologies hosted there are: oncological, haematological (thalassaemia, haemophilia, anaemia, drepanocytosis, thrombopenias), spina bifida, chronic inflammatory diseases of the intestine, rheumatologic pathologies and hemiparesis. NB: we do not host the following pathologies in these sessions: autism, epilepsy, psycho-motor retardation, downs syndrome, mental diseases and various behavioural problems.

Family programmes

The Camp also offers specific programmes for the entire household ‚Äď parents and healthy¬†siblings included ‚Äď with the aim of offering an experience of fun and meeting to all the family¬†which has had to confront the delicate situation of an illness. To date, the following¬†pathologies have been admitted: neurological pathologies, diabetes and rare syndromes¬†(those indicated by the Dynamo Camp Scientific and Medical Committee). This usually¬†involves programmes lasting 3 days, a weekend from Friday to Sunday.¬†These sessions are assigned by Dynamo Camp to health centres and/or reference¬†associations based on the criteria shown below:

  • the health centre or association must identify 32 participating families. Since the¬†actual number of participating families is 23, at least 9 participants must be identified¬†on the waiting list to cover any drop-outs.
  • identify families with a child between 3 and 17 years who has been diagnosed with the pathology that is the subject of the session. ADULTS ARE NOT ADMITTED
  • contribute to the delivery and compilation of the‚ÄĚ Dynamo Camp participation forms‚ÄĚ duly compiled in all their parts by the participating families and their doctors.
  • the stay at Dynamo Camp is completely free; the associations are asked, if considered necessary, to help the families in the organization and financial cover of the journey for Dynamo Camp
  • ensure that the selected families can adhere to and respect the admission criteria and rules of Dynamo Camp (e.g. explicit consent of both those holding parental authority over the minor)

Dynamo Camp is completely free to decide which pathologies and reference associations to assign the sessions from year to year based on its own requirements and organizational capacities.

Programmes for only healthy brothers and sisters of sick children with onco-haematological pathologies hosted at the camp during the year have been inserted since 2012 (Siblings camp).

The Leaders in Training (LIT) programme has been underway since 2011; this is aimed at adolescents between 17 and 19 who have been at the Camp as guests and are preparing to become volunteers. The programme includes training times on basic camp subjects and shadowing the activity managers in the management and planning of the activity itself.

Dynamo Camp hosts Italian and foreign children looked after in Italy and who come from all of Italy. Children from Byelorussia, Latvia, Serbia and Greece will be hosted in the 2016 international programmes.
