Dynamo Camp Non-Profit Association
Dynamo Camp Non-Profit Association has the sole aim of social solidarity and operates, not for profit, in the social and social/health assistance sector.
Dynamo Camp was inaugurated in the summer of 2007 and is the only Italian recreational therapy structure intended to host children, whose lives are compromised by illness, through play and sports activities and an experience of relaxation, fun and social relations in a protected natural environment. Dynamo Camp is in fact a camp designed for children suffering from serious and chronic pathologies, mainly onco-haematological, neurological and diabetic.
The mission is to offer these children a period of relaxation and fun for free and to contribute in developing their trust in their own abilities and potential. Dynamo Camp also offers programmes designed ad hoc for the whole nuclear family and from 2012 sessions dedicated entirely to healthy brothers and sisters (Sibling camp) in the awareness that the illness does not just affect the sick child, but the whole family. Attendance at the Camp offers them a chance to talk with others in a similar situation and to live carefree moments far from the chores of daily life.
All the guests are welcomed free, throughout the year, for holidays lasting a maximum of 9 days, organized into 18 sessions.
Since 2010, Dynamo Camp Non-Profit Association has also taken the recreation therapy programmes outside the camp with the Dynamo Outreach project: it reaches children in hospital, ones who are guests in family homes and children in post-hospitalization or ones coming from non-hospital structures. The Dynamo Off Camp project was born in 2014: this is a truck that carries the special Radio Dynamo, Dynamo Studios, Dynamo Musical projects and creative laboratories on tour. Thanks to the Outreach activities, over 7000 children have been reached from 2010 to today.
The Association of Camps
Dynamo Camp is part of the SeriousFun Children’s Network, a non-profit association that promotes and manages holiday camps worldwide which are specially structured to host children affected by serious and chronic pathologies for free.
Every camp is an independent entity which is born from the dream of the actor Paul Newman – founder of the first camp in the United States in 1988 – and which since then has been the promoting force for these therapeutic experiences for sick children.
So far, over 600,000 children and family members have attended the SeriousFun Children’s Network programmes in 22 countries worldwide with 30 camps and partnerships. All these initiatives are aimed at going beyond the illness to help children and their family members to live joyful experiences and renew hope and confidence in themselves and their own abilities.
